FAQ
Frequently Asked questions
What does a Paediatrician do?
Paediatricians specialize in caring for patients between the ages of birth and 17 years of age. I perform routine well-child exams to monitor growth and development, and provide advice on nutrition and how to raise healthy children. I also diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, such as colds and minor ailments, chest/ ear infections, asthma, and epilepsy. I may also refer patients to other specialists as needed.
Paediatricians also act as advocates for their young patients, supporting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
When do I need to see my Paediatrician?
Book an appointment to see me if your child is ill- whether a minor ailment or something you need “checked out” to have us reassure you, or an acute illness such as a cold or cough or ear infection, or a chronic illness that I need to diagnose or follow up- such as allergy, asthma or epilepsy.
I also do routine well child visits at birth (usually in hospital), at 1-2 weeks post-delivery, at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 18 months, 2 years and annually until 5 years. Routine visits are adjusted according to any risk factors a child has, and illnesses that arise.
I also see the preteens and teenagers up to 17 years of age- a complex period of development where the guidance of a paediatrician can be crucial.
Do you take on new patients?
Yes, we do! We welcome new patients whether you’re simply looking for a second opinion or a natural and wholistic approach to your child’s health.
How do I make an appointment?
You can contact us at the practice to schedule an appointment and obtain our rates. Office hours are generally 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Our contact number is 0763825843. You may call or whatsapp us on this number, or email us at reception@drvinolanaidoo.com
What do I do in and emergency?
If you have an urgent issue or an emergency during office hours, please phone us on 0763825843. If your emergency is out of office hours, please go to the ER at your nearest hospital. If your child is admitted at Sunninghill hospital, the paediatrician on call for the hospital will be called to oversee the care of your child. Please let us know if your child is admitted.
How do I pay?
Consultations in the rooms need to be settled by you after each consultation. We will send you an invoice to enable you to claim back from your medical aid. In-hospital care is billed directly to your medical aid, or settled by you if not on a medical aid.
